About Alsace

Alsace is located in the east of France, and shares a border with Germany and Switzerland. It runs adjacent to the river Rhine, one of the longest and most important rivers in Europe. Alsace is home to many beautiful natural areas, such as the Vosges.

The area's proximity to Germany, means that a large proportion of the population are bilingual. Schools in the area tend to teach half their classes in French, and the other half in German. Alsace is also home to Germanophone regional dialects, such as Alsatian.

The largest city in Alsace is Strasbourg, which is the political, cultural, and economic capital of the region. Strasbourg is the seat of many international institutions, including the Council of Europe, and the European Court of Human Rights.
